Ballet Class

It's been a big week for Kira! First preschool and now, ballet.

She was so excited about ballet class. We bought ballet shoes last night. She got up this morning and told me she needed to get dressed and put her tights on (again with tights!). She said she wanted two braids for class--no ponytail. Righty-oh!

After she got dressed, she started to get nervous and decided she didn't want to go to class. I don't want to force her (or any of the girls) to do activities if they don't want to do them, but I took her to ballet anyway....She's been asking to take ballet for about 6 months.

Kira was scared when we got to the studio. We met her teacher. Even though her teacher was very nice, Kira was still scared. She said she didn't want to dance. Fine. She sat in the studio and observed. Finally, the last 10 minutes, she danced. She had the biggest smile on her face. She was talking and laughing with the other girls in the class. When it was time to go, she hugged her teacher.

Today is Sam's birthday (Happy Birthday Sam!!), Nick's 20th anniversary, and iPhone Day! In about a month, we'll have an iPhone. (Nick's been given one, but it won't be available until then.)

She just won't do anything I say!

Tia has entered a new phase. She's almost two and she wants to do everything all by herself. While we were driving somewhere, Natalie was drinking some water out of a water bottle and Tia wanted some. Natalie offered to help Tia and Tia didn't want help. Their conversation went something like this...

Natalie: Here Tia, let me help you so you don't spill.
Tia: NOPE!
Natalie: Let me help just a little, you hold it here and I'll hold it here.
Tia: NOPE!
Natalie: But I need to help you because you'll spill.
Tia: NOPE!
Tia: I WAN WAAAAER
Tia: MINE!
Natalie: Just let me help so you don't spill it.
Tia: NOPE!

Natalie (to me and quite exasperated): She just won't do anything I tell her. I can't make her do anything.
Me: I feel your pain.

Fun with fans

A couple of weeks ago, we had a heat wave. The girls discovered the joy that is standing in front of the fan. They also discovered how to make their hair look silly.

Ponytails

Boy, this blog is a blog of substance, eh?

We put Tia's hair up in a ponytail today. This made Kira want one too. Here is the cuteness that followed the making of the ponytails.

Sunflowers!

Here's Natalie with one of her sunflowers. She grew 6 (from seeds), lost one (a gopher ate it), and then grew another one. She's quite the gardener! (We moved them to pots on our back deck so nothing else would eat them.)

She wore tights...

Miss Kira started preschool today!

She's been very excited about it for a while now. For many months, we've been talking about how you should wear pants to school so you don't get "boo-boo knees" when you play outside on the playground. We also talked about how you have to wear shoes and socks at her school. Kira NEVER wears socks. She gets that from her Daddy. To accomplish wearing pants and socks, and still look stylish, she decided to wear tights today. She has never worn tights before in her life... She chooses a day in the summer to start.... Okay! It's all about making Kira happy to go to preschool today.

Here she is dressed in her green dress, tights and yellow crocs. You're not supposed to wear crocs to school, but I wasn't sure and I also figured for the first day they would cut her some slack. They did. We'll work on regular shoes and socks for Wednesday.

Here's another shot of her before school. She decided she needed to take the little blue pony with her and leave it in my car.













We get to school and have to walk to the office to find out what room she is in. Here she is walking. Doesn't she look so grown up??? How did that happen?











Here she is getting ready to go to her room. Room 4. It's the same room Natalie was in first! She looks so brave. She did great at the drop-off. A little girl tried to escape as we were walking in. The little girl was crying and the teacher was trying to reassure her. Kira knew that some kids might cry, but she didn't think she would. She didn't. Her little lower lip started to look a little pouty and quiver-y, so I left quickly.




I picked her up at 3:30 and the teacher said she did GREAT! Here's what she made today. It's a giraffe. They make lots of fun things at preschool. She was so proud of it. We think it's the best giraffe made out of a paper plate and clothes pins that we've ever seen! Given how well she did at her first day of preschool we went for coffee (she drinks vanilla milk and eats whipped cream). She wanted me to take lots of pictures of her and her giraffe.


































Preschool is exhausting though! She fell asleep on the 5 minute drive from the coffee shop to our house and then slept for almost 2 hours.














So tired!













The really fun thing... We didn't think Natalie would be able to go to school for the summer because they didn't have a 1/2 day program for Natalie's age. On the way to finding out which room Kira was in (see above), Kira and Judi ran into a girl who is Natalie's age and her Mom. We found out from them that the preschool found a solution for 1/2 day kindergartners and now Natalie will be next door to Kira this summer. Kira and Natalie are very excited about this!
