Now with aliens!

Natalie is starting to enjoy the show "Scooby Doo." One of the episodes was about aliens. Natalie has turned into an alien now (picture coming soon). She made a third eye, a special alien hat and she wears all white.

She is from Neptune.
She lives underwater on Neptune.
She made a costume for one of her stuffed animals and put tape over the eyes because of the underwater living. (She knows that when animals do different things they need specialized body parts.)
She has webbed feet an hands (again underwater living necessity).

Nat designed the keyboard and screen. Kira drew the picture on the screen. Pretty impressive collaboration!

Other guests at the hotel

Aren't they cute? They showed up at our hotel on Friday afternoon. I'm not sure if they got transported over from Sea World (right next to our conference hotel) or if they were on the grounds of our hotel somewhere, but not out in the open.

Regardless, I loved their roly-poly seal-ness!

Self-sufficient Kira

I meant to post this in November, 2007, but the time got away from me. Here's Kira when she was 3.5. She wanted an apple. She got a chair, pulled it over to the sink and washed the apple. Yup. She's good. Dress by Grandma K.

Money talk...

Nat has been learning about money in first grade. She learned a lot about money this summer. She's now decided Kira needs to know money. She took it upon herself to start teaching Kira. Maybe someday you'll get the video of the process too.

Maybe the little girls can help figure out what to do about the financial issues we are facing. You can insert your own joke about them knowing as much more about money than the folks on Wall Street or in Congress if you like.

We have a friend (hi Mandy!) teaching the girls Spanish. Here's Tia's version of one of the activities Mandy did with them. Awwww! It goes along with this theme.

More Science Fair

They made it a very positive experience. Feedback came in the form of compliments. If only that were true in the real world of science. That's okay, it was a good first introduction for a first grader! We look forward to next year's fair. We're already planning. Did I mention we love science around here?

I'm not sure if you ever saw the scavenger hunt Nick sent me on when he proposed. We think the order of the notes was 1) graduation picture, 2) where Catbert likes to sleep, 3) car, 4) just ate something spicy which would lead me to the ice cream!

We still have the ice cream in our freezer. (It's got a different lid. The one with the writing is saved with the notes.) I don't recommend eating the ice cream he used to propose.

we interupt the coverage on the science fair

to discuss books! Books on fairies to be precise.

There's a whole series of books the girls LOVE. We have about 7 of them. We just got "Tia the Tulip Fairy."

Anyway, right now, we have Natalie being "Natalie-the-Night-Fairy" and Tia as "Tia-the-Tiger-Fairy" and Kira as "Kira-the-Kangaroo-Fairy." I need to go find my camera and get some pictures.

dinosaur pictures

Natalie drew these pictures of dinosaurs from the different periods. In addition to them being nice drawings (my little artist!) she characterizes the vegetation of the different periods. You'll note the sparse vegetation of the Triassic, more plants in the Jurassic, and the presence of berries (flowering plants) in the Cretaceous. Her drawings really do capture the environmental changes well. She did the drawings all on her own and explained the vegetation and how she illustrated the changes in the different periods to me.

She did a great job! She typed it all. I have some video showing how painstaking it was. I'll get a picture of the poster as soon as she finishes putting it on the display board. (Note the dinosaur pjs.)
