Shadow cat (Grandma F's kitty) passed away this morning.
She was a stray and stumbled into our yard all beaten up and wounded. We had a big dog (Yaeger, my brother Rob's dog) and she and Yaeger became fast friends. She wouldn't let any person near her for the longest time. Yaeger tended to her wounds and nursed her back to health. He also shared his food with her and let her sleep on his back. It was very sweet. They loved each other. Yaeger was very scared of thunderstorms, and the little cat had a calming effect on him during them and he was much less scared.
My dad, a big ole animal lover, let her stay with Yaeger, got to know her, eventually took her to the vet, and started giving her real kitty food. Yup, he had a cat! The kitty lived outdoors with Yaeger until he passed away.
Now is where we're unsure of things... It was either Christmas of '93, '94 or '96, a time when I was visiting. Yaeger had passed away and I felt sorry for the kitty, outside, cold and lonely on Christmas; I befriended her and brought her in the house. Mom and Dad scolded me, but soon the cat found a nice warm spot to sleep.... in bed with them... Heh. They must have liked her a little. She was a sweet kitty despite her tendency to bite--if she didn't like the way you were petting her, look out! Shadow cat, we will miss you. (We estimate she was somewhere between 17 and 21 years old.)
