Mommy Monster
I described some of the games the little girls have invented here. Here are some pictures from Mommy Monster! Then Daddy jumps in to save Mommy's back. There are 90 pounds of little monsters on Mommy's back in the photos. If Tia were up on the back too, it would be 120 pounds! They are heavy little monsters!

More Birthday
Kira's birthday pictures part 1 are here. Part 2 is on the other camera and it may take a while to get it downloaded.
Kira loved her presents! Thank you from Aunt Kelly and Gerard for the purse full of fun stuff and the necklace. Kira loves her "kit" as she calls her purse. Natalie thinks it is pretty swell too. Thank you Aunt Katrina and Uncle Michael for the pen with the plume and the Fancy Nancy Book! Kira loves Fancy Nancy!

A couple of pictures from the local little amusement park and zoo. (Kira is learning to read... she read Zoo there! We almost had to go to the zoo because she read zoo and wanted to go. Fortunately, through quick thinking, we were able to distract!)

Issues!
1. My camera didn't want to download.
2. I finally got the camera to download, but I did it in a weird way on an old computer, and while I could have blogged from that computer, I like doing it in the way I'm used to blogging and posting pictures from the new computer. (Just call me spoiled by my technology!)
3. I needed to get pictures off of old computer.
4. I had no time.
4a. It was finals week.
4b. I had to be a tap dancing cow. (Really! More about that later.)
5. I am finally close to having pictures off of old computer and on the new computer so I can do more blog posts!
6. And, I am almost done with grading!
7. All of the computer problems reminded me of a poem, which appears below the picture of Kira on her birthday--the first photo taken of her on her 4th birthday!!!

Quickly turn off the computer and be sure to tell your Mom!

Happy Mother's Day, 2008
It's much more fun to be a Mom than I ever imagined. It's also more tiring! I heard myself say today, "I have a lot of energy, but so do they... And there are 3 of them!"
To our Moms, we love you and thank you for all you gave us. We thank you for your spunky, spirited, thoughtful, and caring ways. We thank you for all the shaping of who we are today that you did. We see you both in the little girls and we love knowing you are connected to them.
The little girls say, "We love you Grandma K and Grandma F!"

I'm trying to do two things at a time...
Natalie said the following in one breath....
I'm trying to do two things at a time...The first thing I want to do is make a playhouse for Me and Kira and Tia and Buddy Boy...The second thing I want to do is make boxes for my toys... The problem is that I really don't have any toys that need homes...Do you know any toys that I have that don't have homes? First of all, I have to measure this thing to see how it goes and how big it needs to be.... Kira, guess what I'm doing?!
Whoa. I'm tired now.

Every day is a picnic!
The girls often play with Katie at the park before Kira goes to preschool. They eat their lunch from their lunch boxes outside. It's a tough life, eh?

Mirror Neurons
In the past six months, I have become very interested in understanding Mirror Neurons and the role they play in cognitive development. Basically, mirror neurons are neurons that fire when you watch someone doing a task and are the same neurons that fire when you do the task yourself. The first time you hear about them, it's hard to believe that the same neurons fire when you watch as when you do, but research is showing this to be the case. Mirror neurons are thought to mirror the actions of the world around you in your brain. Mirror neurons are potentially a way to explain how people learn by watching someone else. They are also likely to be involved in language learning, development of empathy and emotional understanding; and problems with mirror neurons (not enough of them or problems with them) may help to explain autistic behaviors.
We have lots of cognitive development occurring in our house, and I've been watching for evidence of mirror neurons. I think I found some. Below is a link to a video of Kira doing gymnastics. She doesn't understand what she's supposed to do and falls on her head (and I caught it on video!). She then watches someone else in her class do the move and the next time she tries, she does it perfectly!
I call this video Kira's mirror neurons!
